Home of Racer Baseball will be renamed to Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park
With excitement building around the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship coming to Murray in late May, Murray State Athletics has received a transformational investment from the Taylor Family to secure the naming right to Racer Baseball's stadium, it was announced on Friday.
Â
The home of Murray State Baseball will now be referred to as Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park, maintaining its field name in honor of longtime Hall of Fame head coach and administrator Johnny Reagan while expressing gratitude to the generosity of the Taylor Family.
Â
"The Taylor Family have been avid supporters of Racer Athletics and the University for years and this is just another shining example of their unwavering commitment to excellence," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "I want to express my sincerest appreciation to the Taylors for everything they do and for their investment into our bright future."
Â
"David and Jennifer were two of the first people that I met with upon my return to Murray and have helped lead the pack in this golden era of Racer Athletics," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "We are incredibly fortunate for their belief in our vision and their willingness to continuously step up to the plate when called upon. This gift will have a transformational impact on the trajectory of our department, and we are extremely grateful for their relentless commitment to success."
Â
The Taylor Family is synonymous with Murray State Athletics, having been long-time investors in numerous sport programs.
Â
"Our family has a deep affinity and appreciation for everything at Murray State University, and we are thrilled to be able to showcase that love with the naming of the home of Racer Baseball," David Taylor said. "The unprecedented progress that has happened with our athletics programs has created a new sense of pride throughout all of Racer Nation. We firmly believe in the vision that is being cast by Director of Athletics Nico Yantko and the Racer Athletics team, and we are excited for what is to come."
Â
David was recently recognized by the University for his investment into the department by earning the Golden Horseshoe Award. This award honors alumni whose dedication to Murray State has contributed to the continued growth and excellence of Murray State through University-held positions and/or exceptional volunteer support.Â
Â
The entire Taylor Family also plays an integral role throughout the community, supporting numerous philanthropic groups and initiatives.
Â
Earlier this year, the department completed phase one of the Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park renovation that included the installation of new turf, a new scoreboard, The Murray Bank videoboard in right field and more.
Â
Murray State Athletics also announced plans to begin construction of the Jim & Sue Cash Baseball Clubhouse, a more than 3,000-square foot baseball facility that features a new locker room, player lounge, team meeting room, and training room right behind the right field wall at Johnny Reagan Field.
Â
Over the last two years, Murray State has raised a school-record $37 million dollars in support of new facilities, initiatives and championship resources. That total was made possible by 13, seven-figure gifts, which also amounts to the most in department history.
Â
The $37 million is committed towards the department's bold, comprehensive $100 million fundraising campaign, Leading The Pack, which was created to further position itself for the future by investing in student-athlete success and wellness, revenue share and competitive resources and world-class facilities.
