OXFORD, Miss. – Murray State women's soccer opened the 2026 season with a 1-0 loss at Ole Miss on Wednesday night at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Rebels (1-0-0) scored the match's lone goal in the 63rd minute, handing the Racers (0-1-0) a loss in their season opener.
"We battled for all 90 minutes," Head coach Ben Madsen said. "Super proud of the effort the team put in tonight. We had some chances and defended our tails off."
Ole Miss controlled the run of play, outshooting the Racers 22-4 and holding a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Murray State did not attempt a shot in the first half but kept the match scoreless through the opening 45 minutes, with goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio recording the half's lone save in the 17th minute.
The Racers' best stretch of the match followed the Ole Miss goal. Breece Bass recorded Murray State's first shot in the 70th minute, the Racers' only attempt on target, and Murray State earned its lone corner kick 11 seconds later. Abbey MacDonald and Addison Howell followed with attempts inside the next two minutes, both off target. Abby Jo Dalessandro added a shot in the 85th minute.
"Just tried to settle down and play our game," Madsen said of the Racers' second-half adjustments. "We didn't do that enough. We did it in spurts, but I think we proved to ourselves that we're capable of doing it."
Revolorio finished with three saves in 90 minutes.
Eight Racers played all 90 minutes: Revolorio, MacDonald, Natalie Miller, Erin O'Shea, Ava Roberson, Ava Wilson, Sami Wilson and Howell.
Murray State looks onward to Sunday's home opener against Missouri at Cutchin Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
