Racers Outshoot Tennessee Tech but Fall 2-1 in Lightning-Delayed Match

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Murray State women's soccer outshot Tennessee Tech 12-4 and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks Thursday night, but the Racers fell 2-1 at Tech Soccer Field in a match interrupted by a lightning delay.
Murray State dropped to 1-5-2 with the loss. Tennessee Tech improved to 3-3-2.
The Golden Eagles took the lead in the 10th minute on an own goal, ending a Murray State shutout streak that had reached 189 minutes across three matches. Tennessee Tech did not attempt a shot in the opening 45 minutes and carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Murray State controlled the run of play before the break, taking all four of its first-half shots and earning five of its eight corner kicks. Natalie Miller forced the first save of the night in the 16th minute, and Kate Stordy and Breece Bass followed with attempts in the 22nd and 30th.
The Racers tied the match in the 56th minute when an own goal evened the match at 1-1. Murray State kept the pressure on from there, doubling its shot total in the second half with eight attempts. Gabby Ramdeen forced a save in the 53rd minute and Abby Jo Dalessandro drew another in the 76th.
Tennessee Tech scored the winner in the 83rd minute, converting its only shot on goal of the match.
Murray State pushed for a second equalizer over the closing minutes, with Ramdeen, Bass and Kate Donoghue all putting attempts toward goal inside the final seven minutes.
"I thought they responded well," head coach Ben Madsen said of the Racers' performance following the delay. "They did everything we asked them to do. They brought the energy. I thought we were better after the break."
Murray State closes its nonconference schedule Sunday, Sept. 13, at Lindenwood. Kickoff in St. Charles, Missouri, is set for 1 p.m. CT.
