In his first season with the Racers, Carrillo helped a defense hold opponents to 81.8 fewer yards and 9.6 fewer points per game than the previous season.
The linebacking corps combined for 37 tackles-for-loss, 15.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. Senior Sam Small led the unit with 77 tackles, while junior Travis Taylor recorded 9.5 tackles-for-loss and also forced a pair of fumbles.
Carrillo spent the 2012 season as the defensive line coach and assistant special teams coach with the Las Vegas Locos. He spent the 2010 and 2011 as the assistant defensive line coach.
Carrillo helped guide a defense that led the Locos to the United Football League championship in 2010, and a runner-up finish in 2011.
In the spring of 2011, Carrillo served as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator for the Vienna Vikings in the Austrian Football League, helping the team to a runner-up finish.
Prior to his time with the Vikings, Carrillo spent five seasons with the Swarco Raiders. Carrillo served as the team’s head coach in 2009 and 2010, after serving as the defensive coordinator the previous two seasons. He joined the team for the 2006 season as the defensive line coach.
In his first season as head coach, he guided the Raiders to the EFL Championship. It was the team’s third title in Carrillo’s first four years with the organization.
Before heading over to Austria, Carrillo spent the 2005 season as the head coach at New Mexico Highlands.
Before taking over as the head coach, Carrillo spent three seasons as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Cowboys.
He began his college coaching career in 2002 as the defensive line coach with the Cowboys.
Carrillo joined the high school coaching ranks in 2000 as the defensive line coach at Everett Alvarez High School. He was promoted to defensive coordinator the following season and helped the Eagles to a 9-2 record and the second round of the playoffs. It marked just the third time the school had reached the postseason.
Carrillo has also spent the 2008 and 2009 season with the Oakland Raiders as part of the International Internship Program.
After graduating from North Salinas (Calif.) High School in 1990, Carrillo attended Hartnell College for one year. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served from 1991-1995.
Carrillo then returned to Hartnell for one year, where he graduated with an associate’s degree in general studies and received a scholarship to play football at Weber State. He played four seasons with the Wildcats, and graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in technical sales.
Carrillo and his wife, Hannah, are the proud parents of daughter Monica.
