Steve Prohm is in his fourth season with the Racers as an assistant coach and he is looking forward to this season more than any other.
When seeing Prohm around the office and arena daily, his enthusiasm and passion for what he does is very evident.
He has a love for coaching college basketball and enjoys being associated with Billy Kennedy.
"Coach Kennedy has taught me about a balanced life," Prohm said. "He's helped me understand more than just the basketball side of things. He gives me the opportunity to lead a balanced life and he's been very loyal to me and I am very loyal to him."
Another reason Steve Prohm is in college basketball is his commitment to teaching and mentoring the student-athletes that are recruited to Murray State.
"We're going to help them academically, socially, spiritually and athletically so they can be prepared when they leave here," Prohm said. "We want them to be successful in their four years at Murray State."
Prohm has been a part of the building effort the last three years which have ended as winning seasons each time for the Racers.
"I like the way our team is growing and we're getting tremendous leadership from our upperclassmen," Prohm said. "We have guys who have been on this level for a while and know what it takes to win."
Prohm graduated from the University of Alabama in 1997 with a degree in education. At Alabama, Prohm worked as a student assistant coach and student manager for the Crimson Tide for five years.
The Vienna, Va., native attended high school at Northwest Whitfield High in Tunnel Hill, Ga. where he lettered in basketball for three years.
Prohm came to MSU after serving as an assistant at Tulane University in New Orleans, La., during the 2005-06 season.
For six seasons, Prohm was an assistant under Billy Kennedy at Southeastern Louisiana University where they won a Southland Conference championship and made a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Prohm also spent one season at Centenary College as an assistant with Kennedy.
