- Tim Kaine (pronounced cane) is in his seventh season with the Racers as an assistant coach in the 2021-22 season.
- He has been a part one of the greatest periods of program history that includes three-straight OVC regular season championships (2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20) and two OVC Tournament titles (2017-18, 2018-19).
- In the last three seasons, the Racers are a combined 90-33 (.731) overall and 57-17 (.770) in OVC games and at home, they are 53-7 (.883) in the CFSB Center.
- In the 2019-20 season, MSU was 23-9 and 15-3 in the OVC.
- The Racers were Co-OVC champions, marking the program's 27th regular season title.
- MSU had an 11-game winning streak overall and a 21-game home winning streak.
- In the 2018-19 Season, MSU had 28 wins, marking the 10th time in 94 seasons that MSU posted 25 or more victories.
- MSU was regular season OVC champions for 26th time & made their 17th NCAA appearance.
- MSU was No. 12 seed and defeated No. 5 Marquette for the Racers’ fourth all-time win in the tournament.
- In the 2017-18 season, the Racers were 26-6 and won the OVC regular season championship at 16-2.
- The Racers competed in the NCAA Tournament in San Diego where they faced West Virginia.
- Kaine has coached OVC consensus All-America selection Ja Morant and OVC Player of the Year and Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention selection Jonathan Stark and OVC Defensive Player of the Year, Shaq Buchanan and All-OVC selections Tevin Brown and KJ Williams.
Before MSU
- Was assistant coach in the 2014-15 season at Georgia Southern where the Eagles had a 22-9 record.
- Was an assistant coach from 2008-2014 at Florida Atlantic University. 2011 Sunbelt Conference Champions and NIT tournament appearance
- Also had coaching stops at Winthrop University (2007-08): 2008 Big South tournament champions and NCAA tournament appearance
- Assistant coach at Newberry College (2004-2007)
- Assistant coach at Guilford College (2003-04): Recruited Ben Strong, 2007 DIII National Player of the Year
- Graduate assistant at Austin Peay State University (2002-2003): 2003 OVC regular and tournament Champions and NCAA tournament appearance
- Before playing at Winthrop, his playing career started at UT Martin where he played for Racer coaching legend Cal Luther.
Personal
- Kaine graduated from Winthrop in 2002 with a degree in sports management and then earned a master’s degree in sport management from Austin Peay in 2003.
- A native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Kaine is married to Jenny Kaine (Ashworth) and the couple has two children, Tory (7) and Avery (4).
