Racers fall in four games at UTM

The Murray State women's volleyball team found its offense held in check by a staunch Tennessee-Martin defense, falling 3-1 at Martin, Tenn., in Ohio Valley Conference action tonight. Game scores were 30-14, 30-14, 30-32, 30-20.
The Skyhawks (6-9, 3-3 OVC) had 14 blocks in the match to the Racers' four, keeping the attack percentage for MSU (4-8, 1-5 OVC) to .050.
Sophomore outside hitter Allie Hunt led the offense for the Racers with 13 kills. Senior outside hitter Kimberly Bunnage, sophomore middle blocker Katie Kemezys and sophomore outside hitter Holly Jansen each had 10 kills for MSU.
Bunnage repelled a team-high 14 digs. Freshman setter Ashley Meagher had nine digs and a match-high 40 assists.
For Tennessee-Martin, Leigh Reiniche had a match-high 15 kills, while Kathryn Sprague and Jamie Hollins added 12 apiece. Dimphy Sasse had 10 kills for UTM.
Shelby Knose served up five aces in the match, while Rebecca Palmer had seven blocks and Sprague and Sasse had six each.
Murray State makes its "Death Valley" trip this weekend, traveling to Eastern Kentucky for a Friday 6 p.m. CT match, then moving on to Morehead State for a Saturday 1 p.m. CT match.
