Racers battle Morehead, fall 3-0

The Murray State women's volleyball team took it to host Morehead State, using an improved defense that kept the Racers in the game, but not good enough, as the Eagles came away with a 3-0 win in Ohio Valley Conference play. Game scores were 30-27, 34-32, 30-28.
Murray State had 10.5 blocks to Morehead State's five and 61 digs to the Eagles' 57. The Racers had a .254 attack percentage to the Eagles' .197.
Sophomore outside hitter Allie Hunt led Murray State with 14 kills and 13 digs. Senior outside hitter Kimberly Bunnage had 12 kills and 11 digs, while Katie Kemezys had 10 kills and 10 digs.
Hunt made only two attack errors in 28 attacks for a .429 percentage.
Senior outside hitter Danielle Sutterer had 10 digs and six blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Holly Jansen had a match-high seven blocks. Senior setter Casandra Ersel handed out 41 assists for the Racers.
For Morehead State (7-13, 6-2 OVC), Laura Cox and Diana Zipp had 15 kills apiece, while Amy Johnson served up four aces. Johanna Thompson had 15 digs, while Casie Garland had 12 digs and handed out 46 assists.
Murray State hosts Eastern Illinois on Friday at 7 p.m. in Racer Arena.
