Racers fall to APSU 3-0

The Murray State women's volleyball team couldn't withstand solid hitting and solid blocking by visiting Austin Peay, as the Racers fell 3-0 this afternoon in Ohio Valley Conference action. Game scores were 30-18, 30-25, 30-21.
The loss was the seventh straight for Murray State (4-15, 1-11 OVC) and eliminated the defending league champion from OVC Championship Tournament contention.
Austin Peay (11-13, 7-5 OVC) hit .308 for the match, hitting consistently throughout, hitting .326 in Game 1, .306 in Game 2 and .293 in Game 3, holding the Racers to .074 hitting. The Lady Govs also had 12 blocks to Murray State's three.
Senior outside hitter Kimberly Bunnage led all hitters with 13 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Katie Kemezys had 10. Senior setter Casandra Ersel repelled a match-high 17 digs, while sophomore libero Julie Lashley had 14. Bunnage served up a match-high two aces, while Ersel handed out a team-high 29 assists.
For APSU, Sarah Schramka had 12 kills, while Julie Burkhalter and Laura Wussow had 10 kills apiece. Burkhalter and Kristen Kirch had a team-high 13 digs each, while Ashley Genslak had a match-high seven blocks, Wussow had six and Jaimie Thill had five.
Prior to the match, Murray State held its Senior Day, honoring its three seniors, Ersel, Bunnage and middle blocker Danielle Sutterer.
The Racers host Tennessee-Martin on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in their final home match of the season.
