Racers shut out Tennessee State

The Murray State women's volleyball team pushed past visiting Tennessee State tonight, shutting out the Lady Tigers 3-0 in Ohio Valley Conference action. Game scores were 30-20, 30-16, 30-22.
Senior outside hitter Kimberly Bunnage had a match-high 16 kills and picked up 11 digs, claiming her sixth double-double of the season and 14th career double-double.
Sophomore middle blocker Katie Kemezy had 13 kills and had a .429 attack percentage, making only one error in 28 attacks. Sophomore outside hitter Holly Jansen added 10 kills for the Racers (4-7, 1-4 OVC).
Senior libero Casandra Ersel repelled a match-high 21 digs and served up two aces for MSU, while sophomore outside hitter Julie Lashley had 10 digs. Kemezys and Lashley had a team-high three blocks each, while freshman setter Ashley Meagher served up a match-high three aces and handed out a match-high 42 assists.
For Tennessee State (3-15, 0-4 OVC), Catherine Armwood had nine kills and 13 digs to lead the Lady Tigers in both categories. Jennifer Washington had 12 digs, while LaQuata Marsh had a match-high five blocks. Kelly Davis handed out 25 assists.
"It's just going to take some time," said MSU head coach David Schwepker. "Our rotations are starting to work, and we're becoming more comfortable with our roles. Our players are starting to relax more and learn their duties."
Murray State has a week off before traveling to Tennessee-Martin on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
