Coming off of a near-upset against traditional Big XII power Missouri, Murray State looks to rebound and get back into the win column when it hosts the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio at the Regional Special Events Center on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
The Racers (2-1) shot 37 percent from the floor against Missouri in their 59-55 loss on Sunday, giving them their first loss of the season after winning two against Division II teams. In UTSA's latest game, the Roadrunners beat Texas A&M International 86-68 on Sunday to improve their record to 3-0.
As their nicknames suggest, this might turn out to be a fast-paced game. The Roadrunners boast four players who average double-digits in points per game, and are led by junior center Ray Selvage. Selvage is averaging 13.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, and is shooting 57 percent from the floor.
The Racers are led by do-it-all sophomore guard Trey Pearson, who is averaging 18.0 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game. Pearson is also averaging a team-high 33.7 minutes per game.
This is the second meeting in the series between these teams. Led by Racer great Popeye Jones' 29 points, the Racers defeated UTSA 107-101 in an overtime shootout on Dec. 29, 1989, in the first-round game of the Lamar Tournament in Beaumont, Texas.
