Lettman Earns Two Top-3 Finishes As Lady Racers Take Seventh At OVC's

The Murray State women's track and field team closed out the indoor season this weekend with a seventh-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois University at Lantz Fieldhouse in Charleston, Ill.
Southeast Missouri won the team title with 170 points and was followed by Eastern Kentucky in second with 108, Eastern Illinois in third with 97, Tennessee State in fourth with 92.25, Samford in fifth with 48.75, Austin Peay in sixth with 35, MSU in seventh with 34, Tennessee Tech in eighth with 17, Jacksonville State in ninth with 13 and Morehead State in 10th with nine points.
Leading the way for MSU was senior sprinter Joan Lettman with second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.79 seconds and a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.06.
Junior thrower Jamie Nurnberger also had a good showing with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 53 feet, 6.25 inches and a ninth-place finish in the shot put with toss of 38-01.50.
Other top-10 finishers for the Lady Racers were:
Kristen Murray, sixth, high jump, 5-02.25; Shanah Zigler, sixth, pole vault, 10-00.00; 4x400-meter relay team (Chantal Curtis, LaShondra Durias, Nicole Peterson, Joan Lettman), third, 3:55.93; Distance medley relay team (Stacey Quashie, Wendy Barger, Trista Curtis, Lauren Wilson), sixth, 13:08.56.
Up next, the Lady Racers open the outdoor season on March 27 at the SIU Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill.
