Blackwood and Schneider Lead Murray State in Nashville

The Murray State track and field team capped off the regular season with a strong performance at the Music City Championships this weekend. The Racers secured two event victories and saw six different athletes improve their standings on the program's all-time top-10 performance lists.
The Racers' weekend was highlighted by a pair of gold-medal performances. Katie Schneider soared to a victory in the pole vault, clearing 3.81m. On the track, Serena Blackwood continued her impressive season by taking first place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.35.
Murray State continues to shift the school record books as several athletes posted marks that moved them up the all-time top-10 lists heading into the postseason:
- Breece Bass: 400m - 54.17
- Jordin Noah: 400m - 55.35
- Ainsley Smith: 800m - 2:10.48
- Cheyenne Melvin: 800m - 2:05.60
- Katie Schneider: Pole Vault - 3.81m
- Jocelyn Host: 3000m - 10:03.91 (Outdoor)
"There were some great performances heading into the championships in two weeks," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "We saw kids fight to move up the conference lists to earn spots in the meet, and we also saw kids continue to improve at the right time. We will take this next week off and focus on finals and getting everything ready for the championships."
Murray State will return to action in two weeks for the MVC outdoor championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
