Nurnberger Earns Two Top-Five Finishes To Lead Lady Racers At SIU

Junior thrower Jamie Nurnberger earned a pair of top-five finishes to lead the Murray State women's track and field team as they opened the outdoor season at the SIU Spring Classic this weekend in Carbondale, Ill.
Overall, MSU finished sixth out of nine teams with 40 points while outscoring fellow Ohio Valley Conference members Eastern Illinois (30) and Austin Peay (19).
Nurnberger, a native of Brighton, Ill., earned a third-place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 135 feet, two inches, while also taking fifth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 159-07.
Other top-10 finishers for MSU included:
Shanah Zigler, eighth, pole vault, 9-06.25; Kristen Murray, sixth, high jump, 5-03; Chanel Morgan, seventh, long jump, 17-11.50; Emily Rader, eighth, javelin throw, 100-04; 4x100-meter relay, third, 47.08 seconds; Nicole Peterson, third, 100-meter hurdles, 14.76; LaShondra Durias, sixth, 100-meter dash, 12.08; Trista Curtis, second, 400-meter hurdles, 1:08.13; Joan Lettman, fourth, 200-meter dash, 25.10; Megan Rainville, fifth, 3,000-meter steeplechase, 12:26.99.
Up next, MSU will compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech on April 3 in Atlanta, Ga.
