Racers split singles matches, but fall to Morehead State in OVC quarterfinal

The Murray State men's tennis team split the six singles matches in its quarterfinal match of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament, but Morehead State won the crucial doubles point, beating the Racers 4-3. The tournament is being held through Sunday at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn.
Murray State (4-15) will play Austin Peay tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:30 a.m.
Today's match came down to an exciting split-set contest at No. 2 singles between Murray State's Masimba Muskwe and Morehead State's Kim Kachel. Kachel won the first set 6-3, but Muskwe battled back to take the second set 7-5. The third set came down to the tie-breaker, which Kachel won, 7-6.
In other singles play, Adam Maskill won at No. 3 singles over Jacob McLeod 6-2, 6-1, while Jeff Lester won at No. 5 singles over Louis Orieux 6-1, 6-1, and Chris Morgan won at No. 6 singles over Damian Storti 6-4, 6-3.
Zakaria Bahri fell at No. 1 singles to Greg Johnstone 6-3, 6-0, and Clayton Clark lost at No. 4 singles to Danny Arbib 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play -- played before the singles matches were played -- Maskill and Morgan won at No. 3 doubles over McLeod and Orieux 8-3 in the eight-game pro set. Bahri and Muskwe fell at No. 1 doubles to Johnstone and Storti 8-5, while Clark and Lester lost at No. 2 doubles to Arbib and Kachel 8-5.
