Racers fall in three to EKU

The Murray State women's volleyball team came out flat from the start, and visiting Eastern Kentucky took advantage, sweeping the Racers in the Ohio Valley Conference match 3-0. Game scores were 30-18, 30-5, 30-26.
"We came out a little flat from the start," said MSU head coach David Schwepker. "Plus, we're still adjusting to a new lineup. Eastern Kentucky is a terrific team, and they played outstanding against us. We just need to regroup and work through this."
Sophomore middle blocker Katie Kemezys led the Racers (3-5, 0-2 OVC) with 13 kills. Sophomore libero Julie Lashley had a match-high 11 digs, and led MSU with two aces. Senior setter Casandra Ersel handed out 27 assists.
For Eastern Kentucky (10-3, 2-0 OVC), Lesley Aldridge had a match-high 16 kills, while Liz Guard added 15. Jessica Sabath had a match-high four aces and a co-team-high 10 digs, while Brittany Nobilio added 10 digs as well. Guard had a match-high six blocks for EKU, while Kelly Jennings handed out 45 assists.
In the second game, the Colonels went on a 16-0 run to surge ahead, making no errors in 31 attacks in that game.
Murray State visits Samford on Friday for a 7 p.m. match. The Racers then travel to Jacksonville State on Oct. 2.
