The Murray State Racers are excited to be involved in the ESPN Bracket Buster Saturday, and today learned of their assignment. The Racers will travel to Houston, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 19, to face Western Athletic Conference opponent Rice (10-7). The game time has not yet been determined.
ESPN also announced the lineup of the other 10 televised games today. Six of the 11 Bracket Buster Series games will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2. The five remaining contests will be produced and distributed through ESPN Regional Television and will be available on ESPN FULL COURT, a satellite pay-per-view service.
The Racers and Rice have met only once before, with Rice claiming a 89-78 neutral-court victory in 1992. Both teams have records and rankings in the same neighborhood.
The Racers have a Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of 88. They are ranked 131st in the Sagarin ratings and are 11-7 overall and tied for second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 6-2 mark.
Rice has an RPI of 81 and are 120th in the Sagarin ratings. The Owls are 10-7 overall and are tied for fourth in the WAC with a 5-4 record.
As part of the agreement to participate in the Bracket Buster, the Racers get a return home date with Rice in Murray next season. That date will determined later.
