Racers sweep weekend with win over Tennessee Tech

The win brought Murray State (5-12, 3-7 OVC) into a tie for seventh place with Samford (7-17, 2-7 OVC), which lost today to Southeast Missouri. The teams are just one match behind sixth-place Austin Peay (7-15, 4-6 OVC), which lost to Eastern Kentucky today. The top six teams advance to the OVC Championship Tournament.
The teams squared off for an epic battle in Racer Arena this afternoon, as the match included 28 ties (10 in Game 4 alone) and 17 lead changes (eight in Game 2). Murray State's offense was the key to the win, as the Racers made only two errors in the last two games for a combined .282 attack percentage.
The Racers were led by freshman Lisa Forchee, who pounded out 19 kills with only three errors in 54 attacks for a .296 attack percentage.
Junior middle blocker Holly Jansen chalked up another double-double, with 18 kills and 10 digs, and had a hand in all five of MSU's blocks. Jansen made only two errors in 45 attacks for a .356 percentage.
Freshman outside hitter Alison Mugler notched her 10th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 12 digs, while freshman outside hitter Alyssa Groves had 10 kills and 15 digs. Freshman setter Kelsey Hubert was the fourth Racer with a double-double, handing out 55 assists and getting 11 digs to go with three blocks.
Freshman libero Heather Norris -- the OVC leader in digs -- repelled a team-high 24 digs today for MSU and served up a co-match-high three aces.
For Tennessee Tech (6-15, 2-8 OVC), Jessica Seyfert had 22 kills and eight blocks. Anne Morrow had 17 kills, 15 digs, five blocks and three aces, while Caitlin Bullock added 11 kills. Seyfert made four errors in 37 attacks for a .486 percentage.
Laura Tyburski had 42 digs, the most ever for any Racer opponent, while Kappy Lang had 21 digs and Claire Yountas had 15.
Murray State continues its four-match homestand on Friday at 7 p.m., when the Racers host Eastern Kentucky.
