Racers Claim Two Championships At Memphis Tournament

The Racers advanced to the semifinals in seven of the eight brackets in which they participated.
Anna Lask defeated Amanda Helberg (6-1 and 6-3) of Saint Louis University and Andrea Feichtinger (6-1 and 6-4) of Memphis to earn a spot in the finals of the number one singles bracket. In the championship match, the Louisville native downed Katrina Domela in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-4.
After dropping her first round match in three sets, Rachael Lask advanced to the consolation finals of number two singles. In number three singles, Pruitt beat Kristin Noble (6-2 and 6-0) of Memphis before falling in three sets in the semifinals to the eventual number three singles champion, Whitney Warren of Samford.
Adriana Alvarez also fell to the eventually champion of the number four singles bracket. After getting by her first round opponent, Juliana Negosek of Southeast Missouri State, Alvarez fell to Katie McMiller of Samford in the semifinals. Tami McQueen did the same in number six singles, dropping her semifinal match to the eventual bracket champion, Ashlesha Lakhande of Arkansas State.
Pruitt and Pennington opened number two doubles play by beating the Georgia Southern team of Szilvia Zsakay and Shea Huxtable by a score of 8-3. In the semifinals the Murray State team downed Jeanne deWest and Elizma Schoonees of Tennessee-Martin, 8-4. It took a little extra play to claim the championship. The Racers beat Samford's Anna Jackson and Katie McMiller 9-7.
The Racers have ended their fall schedule. Murray State will begin its spring schedule on Feb. 12 when it hosts the University of Memphis at KenLake State Resort Park in Aurora, Ky. The match will begin at 10:00 a.m.
