Singleton, a 6-8, 215-pound rookie from Chicago, Ill., came off the bench and sparked a comeback for the Clippers, who at one point trailed by 13 points. The Clippers outscored Seattle 37-18 in the fourth quarter, with Singleton chipping in eight points and pulling down six rebounds in the final period. Singleton also added one assist, one steal and one block for the game to help the Clippers defeat the Sonics for just the ninth time in their last 56 meetings.
"We wanted it more," Singleton said after the game. "We just kept playing hard, no matter how many points we were down."
Singleton, who played two seasons in Italy after his Murray State career had passed, was one of only two rookies to total a double-double last night. The other was Andrew Bogut, the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, who scored 10 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Milwaukee Bucks.
As a Racer, Singleton earned All Ohio Valley Conference First Team honors as a senior in the 2002-03 season after averaging 14.9 points and 11.0 rebounds a game. Most Racer fans remember Singleton's 37-point, 18-rebound night against Eastern Illinois at home on Feb. 13, 2003, when Singleton went 8-for-8 from the three-point line to set school and OVC three-point shooting marks. In his two-year career for the Racers, Singleton scored in double-figures in 44 games, totaled double-digit rebounds in 37 games and had 32 games in which he recorded a double-double.
