Racers open Canadian trip with 92-45 win over Algonquin

[Note: It was discovered after this release was issued that the Royal Military College had pulled out of the game against Murray State, and the Racers instead competed against Algonquin COllege of Ottawa, Canada.]
The Murray State men's basketball team opened its three-game trip to Ottawa, Canada, with a 92-45 romp over Algonquin College this afternoon. The Racers will play Ottawa University tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m., then will take on Carleton University at 7 p.m.
In today's contest, all 14 Racers scored, led by Shawn Witherspoon and Justin Orr, each with 13 points. Issian Redding and Tyler Holloway each had 11 points.
MSU shot well from the field, hitting 37 of 57 shots from the field (64.9 percent). In the second half, the Racers poured in 23 of 31 shots (74.2 percent). Witherspoon was 5-for-5, Orr was 5-for-6 and Redding was 5-for-8 from the field. Holloway popped in three of his four three-point attempts. MSU was 9-for-17 behind the arc (52.9 percent).
Murray State took a 38-23 lead at the half, then outscored the Thunder 54-22 in the latter period.
Witherspoon led all rebounders with seven, while Keith Jenifer handed out a game-high four assists. Murray State out-rebounded Algonquin 32-16, with eight offensive boards.
"I am very proud of the unselfish play we showed today," said MSU head coach Mick Cronin. "We all came together and really played well today. We have two tough games tomorrow, and this will get us off on the right foot."
