Racers hold off Gee-Gees 81-64

The Murray State men's basketball team continued its play in Canada by taking out the Ottawa University Gee-Gees 81-64 in Montpetit Hall in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, this afternoon.
Much like last night's win over Algonquin, all but one of the Racers put a number in the scoring column, led by Shawn Witherspoon's 15 points. Keith Jenifer added 12 points and Justin Orr had 11.
Murray State's excellent shooting from last night did not hold up against Ottawa, although the Racers shot a fine 48.2 percent from the field on 27-for-56 shooting. From three-point range, MSU hit only seven of 26 shots (26.9 percent), and hit 55.6 percent of their free throws (20 of 36).
The Racers commanded the boards, though, out-rebounding the Gee-Gees 42-27, including 18 offensive rebounds. MSU committed only 10 turnovers to Ottawa's 16, and had 13 steals to the Gee-Gees' five.
Murray State had a 43-26 halftime lead, and kept pace with Ottawa's scoring in the second half, as each team put in 38 points in the period.
Murray State will conclude its Canadian play tonight against Carleton, which went 38-2 last season, winning its third straight Canadian college championship.
