Rifle Takes Second At Weekend Tri-Meets

The Murray State rifle team placed second in two tri-meets this weekend, unable to get past Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State in both meets.
In Murray State's first home competition, Murray State Gold shot a 4612 out of a possible 4800. Jacksonville State shot a 4655, while Tennessee Tech shot a 4530 and MSU Blue shot a 4458.
Sophomore Bryant Wallizer shot a 588 out of a possible 600 in air rifle and a 574 out of a possible 600 in smallbore for an aggregate (combined) score of 1162 to lead MSU Gold. Sophomore Kevin Witbrodt fired a 578 in air rifle and a 579 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1157, while junior Cameron Hicks shot a 583 in air rifle and a 572 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1155, and junior Dan Belluzzo fired a 575 in air rifle and a 563 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1138.
For MSU Blue, senior Brandy Boucherie shot a 579 in air rifle and a 553 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1132, while freshman Kasey Meyer fired a 568 in air rifle and a 560 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1128. Freshman Harley Jette shot a 560 in air rifle and a 544 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1104, while sophomore Erica Meece fired a 555 in air rifle and a 539 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1094.
At Austin Peay on Saturday -- an air rifle-only competition -- Murray State shot a 2294 out of a possible 2400. Jacksonville State shot a 2342, while host Austin Peay shot a 2125.
Wallizer led the way for the Racers with a 580 out of a possible 600. Witbrodt fired a 580, while Boucherie shot a 566 and Meyer fired a 564. Individually, Jette shot a 564, while Erica Meece fired a 558.
"As a team, we're getting stronger," said MSU coach Morgan Hicks. "It's little things we need to work on as a team. If we continue to improve, we'll be fine when the NCAA Championships get here."
Murray State will host a shoulder-to-shoulder (dual) match on Sunday with Morehead State at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range at MSU's Roy Stewart Stadium.
