Racer Tennis Falls To Indiana State In Season Opener

Murray State University's men's tennis team opened its 2006 season with a 7-0 loss to Indiana State tonight in Terre Haute, Ind. The Sycamores opened play by sweeping the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and then finished off the sweep by winning six singles matches. ISU improves to 4-2 on the season while the Racers drop to 0-1.
A pair of 8-6 doubles victories gave Indiana State the early momentum. In number one doubles, Anton Tsymbalov and Christopher Eldon downed Fadi Zamjaoui (Casablanca, Morocco) and newcomer Dmytro Hryhorash (Lviv, Ukraine). In number two doubles, Hunter Gerlach (Louisville, Ky.) and Jeff Lester (Harrodsburg, Ky.) of MSU fell to the tandem of Simon Thornewill and James Preston.
The Sycamores claimed six straight set victories in singles play. Tsymbalov took care of Zamjaoui, 6-0 and 6-2, at number one singles. Hryhorash fell in his Racer debut, 6-3 and 6-4, to Thornewill at number two singles.
The Racers will be back in action on Saturday when they continue their swing through Indiana. Murray State will face the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville at 5 p.m.
