The Murray State Thoroughbreds scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning of its game at Indiana State to tie the game at 6-6, but the host Sycamores outscored the 'Breds 8-1 over the next four innings to get the 14-7 win.
Murray State (7-12) got on the scoreboard first in the second inning when Lincoln Kent led off by getting hit by a pitch. Jamie Leidolf then walked, and Austin Swain sacrificed them up a base. Tyler Owen reached on a failed fielder's choice, scoring Kent, then went to second on a wild pitch. Leidolf and Owen both scored on an errant throw on a failed pickoff attempt, and MSU led 3-0 without getting a hit.
Indiana State (9-6) responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, and got two more in the fourth before MSU answered back in the fifth.
Owen led off with a walk, then went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Yount. Brett Mullins singled in Owen, then Seth Hudson singled him to second. Mullins and Hudson scored on a two-base fielding error, and the game was tied 6-6.
As it did in the second inning, Indiana State scored four runs in the bottom part of the inning to forge a 10-6 lead.
In the sixth, Murray State scored again when Leidolf led off with a walk, then went to second on a passed ball. Swain doubled him in for the final MSU run of the game. All 14 of ISU's runs came with two outs.
Mullins led MSU batters with two hits, while he and Leidolf had six putouts apiece. Hudson had three assists to lead the 'Breds.
