Murray State Women's Tennis Stays Perfect In OVC With Win Over TSU

Murray State University's women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Ohio Valley Conference play with a 7-0 win over Tennessee State University today at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky. The Racers move to 2-0 in the OVC and 6-7 overall. The Lady Tigers fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-3 in league play.

“I was really pleased with our mental toughness and aggressive play,” said Murray State Head Coach Connie Keasling. “It really helps a lot to start conference play with two wins.”

With only five players, Tennessee State was forced to forfeit the number three doubles and number six singles matches. Adriana Alvarez and Tami McQueen helped MSU to a quick start with an 8-0 win over Stephanie Fields and Charmaine Helms at number two doubles.

After winning the doubles point, the Racers won four of the five singles matches without losing a single game. Freshman Adriana Alvarez was the first to claim a 6-0 and 6-0 win when she beat TSU's Dania Lofton at number four singles. Anna Lask swept Martina Goldthreate at number one singles.

Senior Tami McQueen clinched the match for Murray State with a 6-0 and 6-0 victory over Fields at number five singles. In the final match of the day, Rachael Lask beat Kiamesha Wilson, 6-0 and 6-0, at number two singles.

The Racers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Richmond, Ky., to face Eastern Kentucky University. The OVC match will begin at 2 p.m.
