Racer Women's Tennis Picks Up Conference Win At EKU

Murray State University's women's tennis team earned its third straight Ohio Valley Conference victory today with a 6-1 win over Eastern Kentucky University at the Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Ky. The Racers ended the Lady Colonels three-match winning streak on their way to improving to 7-7 on the season and 3-0 in the OVC. EKU drops to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Murray State took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Anna Lask and Rachael Lask easily defeated Ina Durcakova and Jemma Euers at number one doubles by a score of 8-1. Adrian Alvarez and Tami McQueen earned an 8-2 victory at number three doubles. Eastern Kentucky won the number two doubles match.
In singles play, the Racers won five of six matches. It took three sets, but Anna Lask completed a comeback at number one singles. After losing the first set 6-4, the junior from Louisville came back to win the second set over Meredith Giles, 6-4, to force a decisive third set. In that final set, Lask dispatched Giles 6-3.
Rachael Lask, Casady Pruitt, Adriana Alvarez and Tami McQueen also claimed singles victories. Pruitt lost just one game in beating Euers 6-0 and 6-1 at number three singles. McQueen, the team's lone senior, shutout Page Ashby at number six singles, 6-0 and 6-0.
The only EKU point came at number four singles where Terin Roof beat Anne Pennington, 6-1 and 6-2.
The Racers will be in action again on Saturday when they face Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky., at 10 a.m.
