Murray State Men's Tennis Moves To 2-1 In OVC With Win Over TSU

Murray State University's men's tennis team defeated Tennessee State University, 7-0, today in its first home match of the 2006 season. The Racers lost just three games in doubles play and only five games in singles at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky. MSU improves to 4-6 on the season and 2-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Tigers drop to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

All three Murray State doubles teams won by 8-1 scores. Fadi Zamjaoui and Dmytro Hryhorash got things started with a win over James Dickerson and Vaughn Evans at number one doubles. The duo of Nicholas Ksiezopolski and Yuri Pompeu, playing for the first time this season at number two doubles, took down Jaala Brooks and Michael Mosley of Tennessee State.

In singles play, the Racers won three matches by 6-0 and 6-0 scores. MSU lost just one game in two more matches.

Zamjaoui had little trouble with Dickerson at number one singles, winning 6-0 and 6-0. Hryhorash and Jeff Lester also won in straight sets without losing a single game. Lester claimed his sixth straight win in singles after beating Keith Richardson at number six singles.

After starting the season 0-8 in singles matches, sophomore Hunter Gerlach won for the second straight time. He downed Mosley at number four singles, 6-2 and 6-1.

The Racers will return to action tomorrow when they face Southern Illinois University in Paducah, Ky., at 3 p.m.
