'Breds Close Homestand With 9-4 Loss To UALR

The Murray State Thoroughbreds battled visiting Arkansas-Little Rock this afternoon, but it seemed that for every step forward the ?Breds made, the Trojans took another step or two in MSU's 9-4 loss.
Arkansas-Little Rock scored twice in the fourth inning, but MSU responded in the bottom half of the inning. Austin Swain picked up a two-out infield single, the Jason Payton singled and went to second on a throwing error, sending Swain to third. Both runners scored on a Leidolf single, cutting the UALR lead to 6-3.

“I see things coming along,” said MSU head coach Rob McDonald. “We're in one of those funks where when you hit well, the pitching doesn't do well, and when your pitching is good, then you don't hit well. I don't want us to stay there for long.
“We're playing a lot of people and getting a good feel for the players and when they're ready to play. We're not trying to give away games while we do that, but we do see things coming along. We've just got to put the entire game together.”
UALR (10-6) was led by Jacob Stover, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
On defense, first baseman Leidolf and catcher Payton each had nine putouts, while third baseman Owen had five assists and Payton had four. For the Trojans, first baseman Brett Lawler had 15 putouts, while second baseman Brian Asbill had six assists.
On the mound, MSU's West Harris (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking four in three innings. Matt Scalfani came on in the fourth inning, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking one in three innings. Anthony Stacy entered in the seventh, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one, while Daniel Calhoun pitched the ninth inning, striking out one batter.
For Arkansas-Little Rock, Trevor Clay (3-0) got the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking two in seven innings. Adam Miller pitched the eighth inning, striking out two, while Dustin Turner pitched the ninth, striking out one.
