
'Breds Twin-Killed At Memphis 12-1

The Murray State Thoroughbreds were twin-killed by host Memphis tonight, as the Tigers turned double plays in each of the first six innings and closed the game with another in the 12-1 MSU loss. The seven double plays tied the NCAA record, set four previous times, last in 2003.
Memphis (20-13) scored four runs in the first inning and led 11-0 before Murray State (8-25) plated a run in the seventh. Seth Hudson blasted a one-out triple to right field, then scored on a groundout.
'Breds hitters had their bats going early, getting hits in each of the first five innings, but having those runners erased by double plays.
Murray State was led by Chaz Ebert, who went 2-for-3. For Memphis, Will Petersen went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in.
In the field, first baseman Michal Perconte had six putouts for Murray State, while third baseman Tyler Owen had five assists. For the Tigers, first baseman Adam Amar had seven putouts, while second baseman Bill Moss had four assists.
On the mound, starter Jon Newton (2-4) took the loss as the first of six 'Breds pitchers, allowing six runs on five hits, walking one in two innings.
For Memphis, Lance Scoggins (2-1) got the win, allowing one run on six hits, striking out eight and walking two in eight innings.
Murray State returns to Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend, beginning with a double-header at Eastern Kentucky Friday at 11 a.m.
