Fadi Zamjaoui Earns Second Straight OVC Athlete of the Week Award

Murray State University's Fadi Zamjaoui has been named Ohio Valley Conference men's tennis Athlete of the Week, for the second straight week, the league office announced today from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters. Zamjaoui went undefeated this past week in singles and helped his team clinch a spot in the OVC Tournament with a 5-2 win over Austin Peay.

Zamjaoui won both of his two singles matches this week, including a win over Shunsuke Shimizu, OVC regular season champion Tennessee Tech's top player. Zamjaoui downed Shimizu in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-5. On Monday, against Austin Peay, Zamjaoui beat Ankur Singla, 6-3 and 6-2, at number one singles.

Earlier in the match against the Govs, Zamjaoui teamed with Dmytro Hryhorash for a victory at number one doubles.

The junior is 13-4 this spring and is riding an 11-match winning streak. Zamjaoui finished the regular season 8-1 against OVC opponents.

Murray State finished its regular season schedule with a 6-11 overall record and 4-5 mark in the OVC.

The sixth seeded Racers will face third seeded Samford University in the first round of the 2006 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at 10 a.m., on Friday. The men's and women's tournaments will be held at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn. Samford edged MSU 4-3 in the only meeting of the season between the two schools, on April 7 in Murray, Ky.

The winner of the MSU/Samford match will play second seeded Jacksonville State at 10 a.m., on Saturday.
