Men's Tennis Drops Home Match To Jacksonville State

Murray State University's men's tennis team fell to Jacksonville State University, 5-2, today at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky. Dmytro Hryhorash extended his singles winning streak to nine straight matches and Fadi Zamjaoui earned a victory at number one singles. The Racers fall to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference. JSU moves to 12-8 on the season and 5-1 in league play.

Jacksonville State claimed victories in the first two doubles matches to take the doubles point. Bernado Bachino and Joey Unkenholz beat Clayton Clark and Yuri Pompeu at number two doubles, 8-2. Diego Pazsoldan and Jean Vaccarin clinched it for the Gamecocks with an 8-6 victory at number three doubles over Hunter Gerlach and Jeff Lester.

Zamjaoui and Hryhorash kept the Racers from being swept in doubles play with a 9-7 win at number one doubles over Scott Robertson and Christian Rybertt. The Murray State tandem won the tiebreaker 7-4.

The Gamecocks jumped out to a 3-0 lead when singles play began with wins at number four and number three singles. Vaccarin took down Gerlach in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3, at number four singles. Rybertt edged Pompeu 7-6 in the first set and then won the second by a score of 6-2 at number three singles.

Hryhorash and Zamjaoui cut the deficit to 3-2 with wins at number two and one singles respectively. Hryhorash beat Bachino 6-4 and 6-2 right before Zamjaoui finished off Robertson 7-6 and 6-2.

Jacksonville State won the match when Andres Amores finished his shutout of Clayton Clark, 6-0 and 6-0, at number six singles. Pazsoldan came back to beat Lester at number five singles after losing the first set, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-4.

The Racers will conclude the home portion of their 2006 schedule on Tuesday when they host the University of Tennessee-Martin at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts at 2:30 p.m.
