Murray State Head Men's Basketball Coach Billy Kennedy stopped by the studios of WNBS radio today and joined the “Voice of the Racers” Neal Bradley on his weekday show “The Sports Lunch.” The program begins at 12:30 p.m.
Kennedy and Bradley talked about a number of topics concerning Racer Basketball; here are some of the high lights:
On the signings this week of Ed Horton and Dwayne Paul: Kennedy said, “We are really fortunate. I have a relationship with the coaches at Birmingham Southern, New Orleans guys where I'm from. When it went down (BSC deciding to drop from NCAA Division-I to Division-III) we were right on it. No question Ed and Dwayne balances our team and gives us a chance to regroup and recruit and still have a solid squad for this coming season.”
On the impact senior Shawn Witherspoon is having on the team: “Shawn has been tremendous. His experience and love for Murray State, his effort, he's been through it all you know. I'm his third coach since he's been here. He's an asset you can't replace, that leadership. All of the returning players: Witherspoon, Tyler Holloway, Rob Kennedy, Tony Easley and Jared Key have been great and have done everything we've asked of them.”
On his coaching staff: “Steve Prohm has been with me at Southeast Louisiana, and Centenary, I'm very glad to have him with me. He's been with me and knows our system and what I expect and how to run things. Chad Dollar was part of the success they had at Georgia Southern the last two seasons, he coaches at Eastern Kentucky in our conference and that's going to help, because he knows the kind of player that we need to win in this league. And Dusty May comes to us from Indiana where he worked with Bob Knight and Mike Davis, he's coached at Southern Cal and brings experience to our program. He's also from Indiana and can recruit north of the Mason-Dixon line. We already feel good about our ability to recruit in the south, so Dusty we be able to help us in the Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and other states around that area.”
On the MSU Athletics staff and the Racer fans: “We've got a great staff in place at Murray and great leadership. Our A.D. Allen Ward has been great. Our fans and supporters are so important. We can't do this by ourselves, we need them. I'm looking forward to meeting our fans over the course of the summer.”
