Dusty May is joining the Murray State University men's basketball program as an assistant coach, Racer Head Coach Billy Kennedy announced today. May comes to Murray State after spending one season as an assistant at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich. May has also served on the men's basketball staffs at the University of Southern California and Indiana University.
“I'm excited to add Dusty to our staff,” Kennedy said. “He has a tremendous background of experience, having been a part of Indiana basketball under coach (Bobby) Knight and coach (Mike) Davis. I look forward to him helping us in recruiting in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.”
Eastern Michigan earned wins against California and the Ohio Valley Conference's Eastern Illinois last season. At EMU, May was responsible for scouting, recruiting, compliance, academics, summer camps and scheduling.
“I'm extremely excited to be a part of a great tradition like Murray State has,” May said. “This is an opportunity to work for a great head coach in an environment where people are passionate about basketball.”
May joined the Eastern Michigan staff after spending three seasons working on the men's basketball staff at Indiana University. He was the administrative assistant for the Hoosiers in 2004-05 and was the video coordinator in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
During his three years on the Indiana coaching staff, May helped recruit two of the nation's top classes. His duties included recruiting, coordinating all on-campus recruiting, and serving as the team's compliance liaison and director of camps.
The 29-year-old May is a 2000 graduate of Indiana University where he spent four years as a student manager for the men's basketball team. During his undergraduate days, May assisted with the program's video coordination and also helped with summer camps.
After graduating from Indiana, May left Bloomington to become an administrative assistant/video coordinator for the men's basketball program at the University of Southern California. While at USC, May was responsible for the video breakdown of opponent's film, served as director of summer camps, and helped coordinate the day-to-day operations of the men's basketball office. He also helped supervise support staff, managers, and office workers.
May and his wife, Anna (Nonte), have three sons, Jack, Charlie and Eli.
