Murray State Wins 73-62 At Eastern Illinois

The Murray State Racers enjoyed a hot shooting first half at Eastern Illinois and turned it into a 73-62 victory Tuesday at Lantz Arena in
The Racers and Panthers were knotted at 26 with 3:03 before half when MSU ended the half on a 10-2 run. Ray George came off the bench for the Racers and provided a spark. George scored two points and dished out two assists in the Racers run. Carter's jumper with 53 seconds left in the half gave the Racers a 10-point lead. Bobby Catchings hit two free throws to cut the MSU lead to 36-28 at the break.
MSU made 14-25 from the field in the opening half for 56 percent. Tyler Holloway was hot from three-point range as well hitting four of five in the first 20 minutes of the game.
The Racers again pushed ahead by 10 points when Danero Thomas scored with 10:48 left.
The game was spotted with fouls throughout with both teams reaching the double-bonus with 8:54 left in the contest.
The second half became interesting when
MSU responded with a lay up off a tipped pass from Carter and a pair of free throws from him for a 62-58 advantage with 2:51 left.
Carter put the Racers on his back and carried them to victory.
He made a steal and lay up with 2:35 left for a six point MSU lead and then made another steal and fed Tyler Holloway who was fouled and he made two free throws for an eight point lead with 2:17 left.
The Racers had their own period of shut-down defense.
The free throw line turned out to be an important part of the game. The Racers went to the line 39 times and hit 27 for 69 percent. The Panthers visited the line 30 times and hit 23 good for 73 percent.
