The Rider Broncs are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference and are 12-9 overall this season, 6-5 in league play. The Broncs are coming off a 54-53 conference road win Monday over Saint Peter's. They are coached by Tommy Dempsey who was named head coach last April after serving as interim coach during the 2005-06 season.
Rider is led by junior center Jason Thompson who has recorded 51 blocked shots (12th in NCAA D-I) this season and leads his team in scoring with 19.7 points per game. He also leads the Broncs with 9.9 rebounds per game (18th in NCAA D-I). Terrance Mouton scores 12.9 per game and Harris Mansell averages 12.0.
Before the Broncs host the Racers Feb. 17, they have five games to play; Feb. 3 (away
Rider has an enrollment of 5,822 and plays home games at Alumni Gym (1,650).
Rider is ranked 216th this week in the Sagarin Ratings, the Racers are 218th.
The Racers learned the news about the Rider game the day after they scored a 57-51 at Samford, a win that pushed their Ohio Valley Conference mark to 8-5, 10-11 overall. The Racers host OVC leader Austin Peay Thursday at the RSEC, game time is
This will be the Racers third BracketBusters game, after winning at Rice in 2005 and winning at home against Illinois-Chicago in 2006.
For the second straight year all 11 OVC schools are participating in the event, which is now in its fifth year of existence. At least one OVC school has participated in the event in each year with the exception of the inaugural event in 2003. OVC schools have compiled a 6-8 overall record in the event, including a 5-6 mark a season ago.
