Sanders Earns OVC Newcomer of the Week Honors

Murray State's Tarod Sanders earned Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors in voting conducted by the league's sports information directors.

Sanders, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., came off the bench to score 10 points in the Racers' season opener Saturday at home against Rider University. The Racers won the game 66-65.

He also contributed two rebounds in the game and was 3-3 from the floor and 4-8 from the free throw line.

Most importantly, he played a role defending Rider's Jason Thompson, who stands 6'10" and is a Wooden Award candidate for National Player of the Year. Thompson was limited to 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting in 38 minutes of play.

The Racers next game is Saturday at Western Kentucky. The game at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green begins at noon.
