Men's Tennis Picked Fifth, Zamjaoui Picked As OVC's Top Player

Murray State's men's tennis team was picked to finish fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference by the league's coaches, the conference announced today from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters. Samford was picked to win the 2007 OVC championship. MSU senior Fadi Zamjaoui was voted as the conference's top player by the coaches.

Fellow senior Dmytro Hryhorash was voted among the top 10 players in the OVC as well with an eighth place ranking.

Murray State is off to an 0-3 start to the 2007 season after facing three of the top ranked teams in the nation. The Racers fell to No. 58 Indiana, No. 6 Mississippi and 36^th ranked Louisville.

Head coach Mel Purcell's 2007 squad includes eight of nine players from a 2006 team that went 6-12 overall and 4-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Zamjaoui was recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year last season after posting a 14-4 singles record during spring competition. His record included an 8-1 mark against OVC opponents. The senior has earned all-conference honors in each of his two seasons as a Racer.

Hryhorash earned first team all-conference honors in his first season as a Racer in 2006. He won 12 singles matches and also posted an 8-1 mark against OVC foes.

Zamjaoui and Hryhorash teamed up to post a 7-2 doubles record against conference opponents.

The Racers will return to action on Feb. 17 when they host UT Chattanooga at KenLake State Resort Park in Aurora, Ky. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
