Women's Tennis Evens Record With 5-2 Win Over Southern Illinois

Murray State's women's tennis team earned the doubles point and then claimed victories is four of six singles matches for a 5-2 win over Southern Illinois University tonight at the Paul Rowton Tennis Center in Paducah, Ky. The Racers improve to 3-3 on the season while the Salukis drop to 3-2.

Anna and Rachael Lask defeated Ame Blacketer and Sabine Tsala Mvilongo, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. A pair of freshmen, Lynsey Bochenek and Angela McGahee, helped MSU earn the doubles point by posting an 8-4 victory at No. 3 singles over Jessica Flannery and Amanda Taillefer.

SIU's Michela Cruise and Martina Vianna Ce defeated Lyndsay Ottosen and Casady Pruitt, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Murray State picked up wins at the top three spots and at No. 6. Anna Lask dispatched Tsala Mvilongo, 6-3 and 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Rachael Lask lost just one game in the second set on her way to a 6-4 and 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.

Pruitt dropped the first set 6-1 at No. 3 singles to Agata Skorupska, but the senior stormed back and lost just one game the rest of the way to earn a 1-6, 6-1 and 6-0 victory for her team.

Southern Illinois earned points at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Flannery beat McGahee, 6-3 and 6-0, at No. 4. Cruise downed Bochenek, 6-1 and 6-1, at No. 5.

Ottosen, a freshman, beat Vianna Ce, 6-4 and 6-3, at No. 6 singles.

The Racers will face Miami (Ohio) University on Saturday in Paducah. MSU and the Redhawks will begin play at 5 p.m. CT at the Paul Rowton Tennis Center.
