
'Breds Fall To No. 25 Evansville

Murray State hosted No. 25 Evansville on Tuesday and saw the Purple Aces plate 13 runs over the seventh and eighth innings en route to the 19-1 final.
Evansville (9-4) scored four runs in the second inning and two in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead, but were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth by 'Breds pitcher Brad Rowland, allowing two hits in each of those innings.
Murray State was held hitless until freshman left fielder Chad Allen hit a double in the fifth inning. Sophomore catcher Daniel Miller also hit a double for MSU, while junior right fielder Matt Scheer and sophomore shortstop Justin Yount each had singles.
Jon Newton (0-1) started and took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking four in three innings. Rowland entered in the fourth inning, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking none in 3-1/3 innings. Daniel Harris came on in the seventh, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out one in two-thirds of an inning, while Charlie Wade entered in the eighth, allowing six runs on five hits, walking one in one inning. Drew Leeper closed the game, facing the minimum three batters and striking out two.
Defensively, senior catcher Jason Payton had a game-high 10 putouts, while senior second baseman Seth Hudson had a game-high three assists.
Evansville was led by Robbie Minor, who went 5-for-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and two runs batted in. Tristan Facer had a double and a grand slam home run to go with two runs and five RBIs.Kasey Wahl went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs and three RBIs.
Defensively, first baseman Wahl had eight putouts, while shortstop Mark Murray and second baseman Ryan Barrett had two assists each.
On the mound, Wade Kapetyn (2-1) got the win in relief, allowing one run on three hits, striking out six and walking one in four innings. Facer started the game, allowing no runs on ho hits, striking out three and walking one in four innings. Jeremy Kuester closed the game, allowing one hit in one inning of work.
