Men's Tennis Earns Road Win At UT Martin

Murray State's men's tennis team edged the University of Tennessee-Martin, 4-3, today in Martin, Tenn., and evened its Ohio Valley Conference record at 3-3. The Racers (4-11) have won three of their last four conference matches. UT Martin falls to 6-9 on the season and 3-4 in the OVC.
Tennessee-Martin struck first with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles by Stephan Bruwer and Stewart McRae, but the Racers answered. Hunter Gerlach and Chris Horton evened things out with an 8-4 win over William Taylor and Andrey Yesipov at No. 3 doubles.
Dmytro Hryhorash and Fadi Zamjaoui claimed the doubles point for MSU with a hard fought 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles over Alfredo Krywacz and Christian Slabbert.
When singles play began UTM quickly tied the score at 1-1 with a victory by McRae over Jeff Lester at No. 4 singles. MSU's Yuri Pompeu made it 2-1 when he took out Slabbert at No. 5 singles 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2.
Hryhorash brought the Racers to within in a point of claiming the team victory when he beat Bruwer 6-4 and 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
The Skyhawks weren't finished though. Yesipov pulled out a three set victory at No. 3 singles to cut the deficit to 3-2. After winning the first set 6-1, Yesipov dropped the second set to Gerlach 6-3 before pulling out a 6-2 win in the third set.
Zamjaoui earned the match clinching victory at No. 1 singles where he beat Krywacz 6-3 and 6-4.
The Racers will host Tennessee Tech on Thursday. The match at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts on the MSU campus will begin at
