Men's Tennis Beats Morehead State 6-1

Murray State's men's tennis team picked up an Ohio Valley Conference victory today with a 6-1 win against Morehead State University at the KenLake State Resort Park Indoor Tennis Center in Aurora, Ky. The Racers improve to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in the OVC. The Eagles drop to 5-16 on the season and 2-7 against conference opponents.

The Racers grabbed the early lead by winning the doubles point.

At No. 1 Dmytro Hryhorash and Fadi Zamjaoui defeated Jacob McLeod and Adam Storti, 8-1. Jeff Lester and Yuri Pompeu clinched the doubles point for MSU with an 8-3 win against Dusan Milovanovic and Tyler Worley at No. 2 doubles.

Morehead State picked up a win at No. 3 doubles where Greg Anderson and Doug Song beat Hunter Gerlach and Chris Horton 8-5.

The Racers quickly moved in front 2-0 when Storti retired after one game against Hryhorash at No. 2 singles.

Zamjaoui's 6-4 and 6-1 win over Anderson at No. 1 singles left Murray State just one win away from claiming the match.

Before the Racers could get the clinching victory, McLeod closed the gap to 3-1 with a three set victory over Gerlach at No. 3 singles. Gerlach took the first set 6-1 but McLeod game back to win the next two sets by identical 6-4 scores.

Lester clinched the match for Murray State when he downed Milovanovic 7-5 and 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Lester overcame a 5-2 deficit in the first set to post the clinching win.

Pompeu and Horton set the final score with straight-set victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.

The Racers will play at Tennessee-Martin on Tuesday. The match in Martin, Tenn., is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
