Track & Field Produces Three First-Place Finishers at Gatorade Classic

The MSU Track & Field team traveled to Cape Girardeau, Mo. Friday for the Gatorade Classic and came back with three first-place finishers.
Freshman Meagan Richeson finished first out of nine competitors in the 400 Meter Hurdles, with a time of 1:06.98.
In the Long Jump competition, Andreye' Payne produced Murray State's second top finish of the day (5.40 m; 17-08.75), ahead of two other MSU top-5 finishers in the Long Jump, Kassandra Sutzer (4th place; 5.27 m; 17-03.50) and Chelsea Hosey (5th place; 5.25 m; 17-02.75).
Freshman Josha Rogers then finished atop the High Jump standings, with a jump of 1.58 m (5-02.25). Maggie McKay finished in 2nd place in this event (1.55 m; 5-01.00), and Lindsay Rich finished in 6th place (1.50 m; 4-11.00).
Taylor Crawford finished in 7th place out of 18 competitors in the 800 Meter Run, with a time of 2:22.29. Amber Thomas also placed in this event, with a time of 2:36.82.
Alaina Zanin led a trio of Racers in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 18:52.82, good for 4th place. Kristen Miller finished at 19:23.18, while Lindsey Neeley came in at 19:49.69.
Sutzer was MSU's lone representative in two other events, the 100 Meter Dash (13.41) and the 200 Meter Dash (27.26), while Crawford competed in the 1500 Meter Run, finishing 6th out of 18 competitors (4:55.83).
MSU had four finishers in the Shot Put, led by Dominique Robinson's 12.79 m (41-11.50) toss, which earned her 2nd place. Pam Bell (12.29 m; 40-04.00), Shameka Dial (11.61 m; 38-01.25), and Felicia Hargis (10.62 m; 34-10.25) also provided solid finishes for Murray State.
Five Racers finished in the Discus Throw: Laura Schroeder (43.08 m; 141-04), Bell (40.19 m; 131-10), Robinson (37.77 m; 123-11), Dial (34.74 m; 114-00), and Hargis (28.98 m; 95-01).
Schroeder (31.04 m; 101-10) and Hargis (26.62 m; 87-04) also competed in the Javelin Throw, as did freshman Rachel Haley (25.00 m; 82-00).
Alicia Tempel placed 3rd out of 7 competitors in the Pole Vault, with a distance of 10-06.00 (3.20 m).
As a team, Murray State's 'A' team finished fifth in the 4x100 Meter Relay (50.58), while the 'B' team finished in 7th place (53.51).
Murray State has next weekend off, then will resume action at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. on April 20-21.
