
'Breds Fall At Belmont 8-1

Senior second baseman Seth Hudson hit his 11th career triple, moving within one of the Murray State career record, but host Belmont proved too much in Murray State's 8-1 loss.
The MSU record for career triples is 12, set by MSU Hall of Famer Jack Perconte (1973-76).
Belmont took the lead in the third inning on a grand slam by Derek Wiley, then tacked on three more in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
Murray State (15-27) got on the scoreboard when Hudson hit a triple, then scored on a double by senior first baseman James Akin to make it 7-1. The Bruins added another run in the seventh to close the scoring at 8-1.
Murray State was led by Hudson, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Defensively, senior center fielder Tyler Pittman had six putouts, while Hudson had two assists.
For Belmont (27-20), Wiley went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and five runs batted in. Defensively, first baseman Ben Petsch had nine putouts, while second baseman Brandon McCall had three assists.
On the mound, Jake Donze (3-5) took the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking none in 4-1/3 innings. Lucas Allen came on in the fifth, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out two and walking none in 1-2/3 innings. Drew Leeper entered in the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits in one inning, and Jon Newton pitched the eighth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.
For the Bruins, Brandon Paetznick (3-1) got the win, allowing one run on six hits, striking out two and walking one in six innings. Carlo Testa came on in the seventh, allowing no hits, striking out two and walking one in two innings, while Chris Manning pitched the ninth, retiring the three batters he faced.
Murray State will return to its Ohio Valley Conference schedule this weekend when the 'Breds visit Tennessee-Martin for a three-game weekend.
