Zamjaoui Successful In Professional Debut

“It felt good to be out there,” Zamjaoui said. “It's another level. In college you play one or two matches a week, it was tough mentally to play everyday.”
After receiving a first round bye, Zamjaoui defeated Marcelo Gomez, 6-2 and 6-0, in the round of 32.
In the third round, the former Racer upset fourth seeded, and ATP ranked, Jarmere Jenkins in three sets. After losing the first set 7-6, Zamjaoui came from behind to win the second set 7-5 and the decisive third set 6-4.
“The guy I beat in the third round was ranked by the ATP,” said Zamjaoui. “That gave me a lot of confidence.”
In the quarterfinals Zamjaoui won another three-set match, beating his opponent 2-6, 6-1 and 6-2.
In the semifinals Zamjaoui came out on the wrong end of a three-set match. After dropping the first set 6-1, Zamjaoui came back to win the second set 7-6. He couldn't complete the comeback and fell in the third set by a 6-2 score.
Next up for Zamjaoui is the Tennessee Valley Open Championships in
Zamjaoui concluded his Racer career in 2007 by being named as the Ohio Valley Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year, for the second straight year.
In addition to earning player of the year honors, Zamjaoui was also selected to the all-conference first team for the second time. He was also a second team All-OVC selection his sophomore season.
