Racer Soccer Drops Close Match At Evansville 2-1

The Murray State women's soccer squad played another top quality opponent in the Evansville Aces Tuesday and again in many cases out played the competition only to drop a 2-1 decision.

The Racers fell behind early when the Aces scored in the 10^th and 21^st minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

MSU scored in the 67^th minute when Jen Peios set up Rebekah clay on a shot from 10 yards right of the goal.

The Racers had several chances to draw even but could not get the equalizer even though they dominated play in the second half and out shot Evansville 8-4 for the half. MSU had a 17-9 advantage in shots for the game.

“When we look at getting ready for play in the OVC, I couldn't ask for the girls to be in any better position than we are right now,” MSU head coach Beth Acreman said.

“We're playing possession soccer and the team is getting better at playing on the ball,” Acreman added. “I think we're raising our level of play in each match and we'll be peaking when conference games begin.”

The Racers were up against a veteran Evansville team that has given only two goals over their last four matches.

Clay leads the Racers with four goals this season.

Tessa Williams and Tara Isbell split the game each covering the goal keeping duties for a half.

The Racers will fly Thursday morning from Nashville to Fort Meyers, Fla. and play two games before returning home. MSU plays Friday night at Florida International in Miami and at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday in Fort Meyers.
