MSU Uses Air Tight Defense To Win At SEMO 79-51

The Murray State Racers put together a truly outstanding performance Monday and came away with a 79-51 Ohio Valley Conference victory over
The win puts the Racers at 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the OVC.
The Racers put together their second straight hot start when they jumped to an 11-0 lead only 2:45 into the contest. MSU hit three straight three-point baskets, one from Danero Thomas and two from Tyler Holloway.
At the 11:49 mark, the Racers had held SEMO to 0-fo-11 from the field until SEMO's Calvin Williams scored on a put back to make it a 17-4 game in favor of the Racers.
Southeast cut the lead to 10 and the Racers responded with two fast break baskets by Tony Easley and Ray George to build a 24-10 lead with 8:30 left in the half.
The Redhawks made a run and cut the MSU lead to five with 3:46 left, but the Racers went into the locker room at half with a 37-27 lead.
The Racers's shooting slowed by half, 13-of-31 (.419), but they held SEMO to 8-of-31 (.258). MSU had six steals in the first half and forced the Redhawks into 10 turnovers.
The Racers played great defense at the start of the second half as well and held the Redhawks to 1-of-11 shooting.
MSU didn't exactly burn up the nets, but did manage to push the score to their largest lead of the game when Marvin Williams made a spectacular tip in with 12:23 left. MSU was in front 51-35.
Carter hit a jumper and then a three-pointer for a 62-42 lead with 8:09 remaining, followed by a pair of free throws. The Racers grabbed two steals and turned them into easy baskets by Kevin Thomas and George Fotso. MSU had a 72-48 lead with 5:20 left in the game and ended the game on a 13-3 run to make it a 79-51 final.
Carter scored a season-high 22 points on 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-5 from three range.
Tony Easley added 11 points with eight rebounds.
The rest of the effort from the Racers came from everyone who played. Ten different Racers made the scoring column in the game. MSU had a season-high 12 steals and forced SEMO into 18 turnovers. MSU also had a solid game in winning the rebounding total 49-42.
GAME NOTES
MSU's defense at the beginning of each half was amazing. MSU held the Redhawks to 0-of-11 at the start of the game, then 1-of-11 at the start of the second half.
The Racers have now won five straight at the Show Me Center and haven't lost at SEMO since 2003. MSU is 22-7 all-time at SEMO. The two won't have to wait long for their second meeting of the season, coming Jan. 26th at the

Carter zoomed past 500 career points tonight. He now has 515.
Tyler Holloway was 2-of-5 from three-point range in the game and now has 121 in his MSU career. He'll pass William Moore (1994-95) for 9th place on the MSU all-time list with three more.
