Dial Sets Weight Throw Record At Broadway Invitational

The Women's Track and Field team finished out the last indoor meet before the Ohio Valley Championships next weekend in
Having another outstanding performance, Senior Shameka Dial broke the MSU school record again in the weight throw winning the event with a mark of 17.85 m (58' 6 4/3”). Dominique Robinson also had an excellent day by placing third with a mark of 17.6 m (57' 9”). The two now have the best throws in the OVC this season.
In sprints, Freshman Audris Williams ran a great time of 7.3 seconds in the 55 meter dash which landed her in third place. Brandi Williams and Brittany Davies took ninth and tenth with times of 7.48 and 7.66 seconds respectively.
In her first meet for the Racers, Michelle Evans placed second in the open 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.3. While her teammate, Meagan Richeson rounded out the longer events by placing fourth with a time of 2:29.0 in the open 800 meter dash.
Freshman, Laken Dirkes had an exceptional race in the 55 meter hurdles by placing sixth with a time of 8.62 in the finals.
In the jumps, Chelsea Hosey had an outstanding day in both high jump and long jump. In high jump she placed fourth with a leap of 5' 0” and in the long jump she took fifth with a mark of 16' 11”. Her teammates Audris Williams and Olivia Joseph also placed second and fourth place respectively in the long jump. Williams had a mark of 17' 8 3/4”, while Joseph edged out competitors with a mark of 17' 3 ¼”.
Murray State Coach Derek Chavis said he was very pleased with the team's performances and is enthusiastic about the upcoming indoor OVC Championships.
“I think we've taken something from each meet whether we set personal records or not,” Chavis said. “We are starting to see great performances and ultimately that is what we want to happen with the conference meet coming up. Our main focus has been to learn how to compete as individuals and compete as a team.”
