Dial Honored As OVC Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Week

Murray State senior Shameka Dial has been honored by the Ohio Valley Conference as the Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Feb. 26, marking the third time in four weeks Dial has been named to that position.

Having emerged as one of the top field athletes in the OVC this indoor season, Dial broke her own school record last Friday, when her weight throw toss of 58'06.75" bested her previous record by almost two feet, earning her first place in the competition at the Broadway Prescription Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Dial's toss is the longest weight throw this season in the OVC.

Dial and head coach Dereck Chavis' Racers will look to build the momentum they have gained from a record-breaking season into the OVC Indoor Championships, hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn. The two-day competition is scheduled for Feb. 29-March 1 at the Gentry Center, beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
