Women's Tennis Eases to 7-0 Victory Over IUPUI

The Murray State women's tennis team improved its record to 5-2 with an impressive 7-0 victory over IUPUI Friday evening at the Rowton Indoor Tennis Center in Paducah.
The Racers wasted no time in jumping out to a 1-0 advantage as they dropped only seven games in sweeping through doubles action. Ashley Pierson and Adriana Alvarez led the charge as they did not drop a game. The top tandem of Angela McGahee and Anne Pennington continued their winning ways with an 8-3 victory, while Alexis Webb and Lynsday Ottosen came away with an 8-4 decision.
Ottosen got the singles matches off to a good start as she wasted little time in a 6-0 6-1 victory over Emily Holsapple at No. 4 singles. McGahee followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top spot and Pennington clinched the match shortly thereafter with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Allison Thompson at No. 2 singles.
Pierson stepped up at No. 6 singles and came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while Alvarez quickly ended her match at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Webb had the toughest test of the evening as she let a 5-2 lead slip away in the opening set and hung to defeat Vanessa Cama 7-5 in the tiebreaker. Webb carried the momentum into the second set where she rolled to the 6-1 victory.
MSU returns to the court Sunday morning against Southern Illinois. First serve is set for 9 a.m. at the Rowton Tennis Center in Paducah.
